CSPDC labourers suspend strike ahead of festive season

BS Reporter Raipur

The contract labourers working with the state-run Chhattisgarh State Power Distribution Company (CSPDC) have called off their indefinite strike in wake of dusherra and diwali festivals.

The workers had gone on indefinite strike two days ago that severely affected the working in the state-run power company. Chhattisgarh is already reeling under power crises and the indefinite strike of the workers further affected the working.

“In wake of ensuing dusherra and diwali festivals, the contract workers have decided to call off their indefinite strike,” T T John, President of Janata Union, said. The Janata Union is the trade body of the power company and the indefinite strike was resorted under its banner. The strike was in support of revision in the salary of the contract labourers.

John said the working in the distribution system was badly affected and in the larger interest of the people of Chhattisgarh, the strike was called off to ensure uninterrupted power supply during festive season. “Once the festivals are over, we will design new action plan in support of our demands,” he added.

The contract labourers had informed the power company of returning to work.

The company officials said that the labourers were deployed in power sub-stations and were assisting in the maintenance of the network. After the strike, the maintenance work, which was crucial during festival season, was badly affected.
