Calcutta University plans to focus more on nano technology research and development this fiscal, in collaboration with industry bodies and foreign universities.
The university has already set up a Centre for Research in Nanotechnology and Nanoscience (CRNN) in the city with substantial investment and plans to start a PhD programme both for the students, as well as people from the industry,shortly.
The university has also been approached with a joint proposal by the West Bengal Green Technology Development Council and West Bengal Department of Science and Technology to set up an incubation cell for the synthesis of photo-voltic cell in collaboration with a University in USA.
An MoU will be signed very shortly in this regard.
The Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) is planning to partner Calcutta University for providing industry inputs in the field of R&D for nanotechnology.
Speaking at an interactive session organised by the CII and Calcutta University on nanotechnology, Suranjan Das, vice chancellor, University of Calcutta, said “There is a need for industry-university collaboration in this field. Interfaces like this between the academia and industry have a major role to play.”
D J Chattopadhyay, director, Centre for Research in Nanotechnology and Nanoscience (CRNN) & Pro- Vice Chancellor, University of Calcutta, informed that the Centre for Research in Nanotechnology and Nanoscience would be starting a PhD program both for students as well as for people from the industry.
Apart from this, Calcutta University also plans to set up particular specialized groups in this field in collaboration with the Department of Law who will set up a framework of rules and regulatory guidelines for the research in this field, he added. Recommendations in this direction have also been placed before the Government of India by the University.
Chattopadhyay also informed that the forthcoming project of the Business Incubation Cell would be started shortly.
