BS Reporter New Delhi

The Central Bureau of Investigation has arrested the head of event management companies Meroform India and GL Events, Binu Nanu, in connection with the Commonwealth Games overlays scam.

Nanu has been remanded to four days police custody. He will be produced before the high court on January 22. “After we produce him in court, we will decide our further course of action,” said a senior CBI official.

CBI had registered a case for irregularities in the overlays contracts given to various firms during the Commonwealth Games for over Rs 600 crore against Nanu. V K Verma, director general of the Organising Committee was also named.

The investigating agency had raided the premises of Nanu earlier this month. Premises of 10 companies which were searched by CBI included GL Events, Deepali Design and Exhibits, ESAJU, D’Art, Pico-Deepali consortium, Comfort Net Traders. Nanu’s homes were also searched.

The overlays contracts are under the scanner of both the Income Tax Department and the Enforcement Directorate. The CBI had earlier registered three cases. While two cases were registered in connection with alleged irregularities in the Queen’s baton relay, the third is in connection with the awarding of contract for time and scoring.
