The fear of a possible drought like situation looms large in south Orissa’s Ganjam district due to the delay in arrival of monsoons in the state as a result of which the operations for the kharif season have been delayed by about ten days.
With the monsoon playing truant and the heat wave still prevailing, the farmers in the district have been gripped by panic. Considering the gravity of the situation, the Orissa government plans to make alternative arrangements if the state receives no rainfall within a week. “We hope the monsoon will arrive in the state within 3-5 days and if the state receives no rain within a week, we will think of alternative arrangements”, SN Patra, the state revenue minister said here.
