The pace of implementation of e-governance projects in Orissa under the Centrally sponsored National e-Governance Plan (NeGP) seems to be on the fast track.
This is reflected in the latest data released by the Department of Information Technology (DIT) of the Government of India.
Going by the DIT data on the status of implementation of the State Data Centre (SDC) project (as on March 4, 2010), Orissa is among the seven leading states of the country where either contracts have been signed or work order issues for the implementation of this project.
Besides Orissa, the other states where significant progress has been reported included Tripura, Gujarat, Maharashtra, Sikkim, Nagaland and Rajasthan. The SDC project in all these seven states is set to be fully implemented by August 2010.
The SDCs have been envisaged for the states to consolidate services, applications and infrastructure to provide efficient electronic delivery of services.
The SDC would provide many functionalities and some of the key functionalities are Central repository of the state, secure data storage, online delivery of services, citizen information and services portal, state intranet portal, disaster recovery, remote management and service Integration.
SDCs would also provide better operation and management control and minimize overall cost of data management, IT resource management, deployment and other costs.
