Globsyn to expand school

Our Bureau Kolkata
Globsyn Business School (GBS) is doubling capacity to 120 students, for the new session starting July.

The business school, which started off last year, had 53 students in the first batch. Bikram Dasgupta said that the first batch of 53 students have already received more than 60 offers from nationally reputed companies.

Dasgupta explained that there was tremendous potential in Kolkata as the number of common admission test (CAT) aspirants from the city was around 6,000 while, the number of Kolkata students studying management at Indian Institute of Management (IIM) was only 100. This implied there was an excess demand of around 5,900 students.

However, the recruiters for this year were mainly from the eastern region. Dasgupta said, the institute would endeavour to approach recruiters across the country.

GBS also had plans of branching out to other parts of the country, especially Delhi. The number of CAT aspirants from Delhi was estimated to be in the region of 30,000.

However, Dasgupta said, GBS would make a cautious approach in pursuing its national roadmap.

Eventually GBS and Globsyn's media and entertainment arm, GEMS would be integrated. Dasgupta said, there were plans to bring GEMS under the banner of GBS, for administrative purposes.

He pointed out that although Globsyn would like to have all its training arms under the banner of Globsyn graduate studies but, for the time being, IT would kept separate.
