Haryana to cover all its districts under NREGS

The ambitious National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (NREGS) would be launched in 16 more Haryana districts on April 1, 2008 thus covering its all the 20 districts under the scheme.
 
While stating this today, Chief Parliamentary Secretary, Dharambir Singh, who is attached to Chief Minister for Rural Development Department, said that the Haryana Government has decided to get this scheme launched in remaining 16 districts of the State by organising special district level programmes tomorrow.
 
He said that initially the scheme was implemented in the districts of Mahendergarh and Sirsa with effect from February 2, 2006 and it was extended to all the Gram Panchayats of two more districts of Ambala and Mewat from April 1, 2007.
 
Dharambir said that the scheme is aimed at enhancing security of livelihood in rural areas by providing guaranteed wage employment of atleast 100 days in a financial year to every household whose adult members volunteered to do the unskilled mannual work.
 
Central Government funds 90 per cent of the scheme and the State Government's share was 10 per cent, he added. He said that the scheme was being implemented in rural areas and one third of the jobs were reserved for women.
 
The minimum wage applicable in the State, were payable to the persons employed under the scheme.
