Himachal seeks doubling of Five-Year Plan

The Himachal Pradesh government has urged the Planning Commission to double the Five-Year Plan of the state to Rs 27,556 crore for the 12th five year plan period 2012-17.
This request was made today by Chief Minister P K Dhumal in New Delhi at a meeting on the 12th plan approach paper organised by the planning commission.
Dhumal requested the commission to address critical issues like forest clearances and payment of net present value in construction of roads under the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY), saying the state was not able to utilise its allocation under PMGSY as most of the road projects were in forest areas.
He has asked the Central government to sanction special package for tourism development and provide funds to build a large airport near Shimla with landing facilities for Boeing aircraft.
He said only 36 km of railway line had been added in the last 27 years and demanded completion of all pending railway projects.
