HRTC's staff to go on strike on Tuesday

The majority of the Himachal Roadways Transport Corporation (HRTC) buses may not run on August 23 as contractual staff of the HRTC are set to go on a day-long strike across the state in support of their demands.
Around 70 per cent of the state roadways’ buses are manned by contractual staff who have several demands including regularisation of their services.
Out of a total of 5,000 staff, around 2,800 are on contractual service. Last month, the management had assured meeting their demands but so far none have been met, unions said.
Among all public sector units, HRTC is the biggest loss making company in the state with an accumulated loss of over Rs 550 crore.
HRTC connects some of the remotest mountainous habitations in the country. There is only a negligible private-run service in rural Himachal.
