IIIT looks to partner more companies

With some of the major software companies already joining hands with the government, the proposed Indian Institute of Information Technology (IIIT) in Tiruchirappalli district is looking at partnership with another three to four companies to start operations.
Speaking at the annual day of ICT Academy of Tamil Nadu here on Monday, TS Sridhar, additional chief secretary - higher education, said companies including Tata Consultancy Services, Cognizant, Infosys and Take Solutions had already submitted their letters of consent to participate in the establishment of the IIIT. Another three to four more companies were needed to start the project.
The proposed IIIT, a public private partnership (PPP) model formed by the central government, state government and industry players, is expected to come up with a total investment of around Rs 128 crore.
The Tamil Nadu government has already identified the land at Sethurapatty, Srirangam in Tiruchirappalli, for the project.
The central government had earlier announced plans to set up 20 IIITs under the PPP model in various parts of the country.
