India Tops In Worker Remittance

At $10 billion in 2001, India had highest flows among developing countries
Indian workers sent home the largest pay cheques among the developing countries at $10 billion in 2001, according to the Global Development Finance Report released today.
The amount constitutes 13 per cent of the total $72.3 billion that flowed into all developing countries in 2001. India was followed by Mexico with $9 billion, and the Philippines with $ 6.4 billion.
The report pointed out that South Asia received $16 billion in remittances in 2001, which constituted around 2.5 per cent of the region
