Jamnagar GIDC phase II lacks basic facilities

Our Regional Bureau Jamnagar
The Jamnagar GIDC phase-II plot holders association has expressed concern over the lack of basic amenities in the industrial estate and the state government's move to hike the land price in the area. The association has also made a presentation before the state chief minister.

Sources at the association said, since the inception of the GIDC phase-II in Jamnagar in 1989, the estate is striving for the basic facilities needed for industrial growth.

"A charge of Rs 13.47 per square metre was recovered from plot holders for the underground drainage system. But, the drainage facility has not been provided in the estate so far. The estate also does not have a post office, police station or electric bill collection centre," the sources said.

The state government has also increased plot prices from Rs 450 per square metre to Rs 995 per square metre. The sudden hike in plot prices when real estate prices are on the decline is shocking, the sources said.

"Some of the plot holders have offered to return their plots to GIDC at the original cost of Rs 450 but the offers have not been responded to so far by the GIDC authorities," they added.

Plot No 90 in the estate was allocated for the plot holders association's office in the estate development programme.

However, its cost has indirectly been recovered by the GIDC, said the sources.
