V Gopalsami, MDMK general secretary, yesterday held Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M Karunanidhi, responsible in thwarting the chances of TMC leader G K Moopanar, from becoming the Prime Minister.
Addressing a press conference here, Gopalsami said cutting political barriers, all parties in Tamil Nadu had wholeheartedly backed Moopanar for the prime ministers post. But Karunanidhi had different plans and blocked Moopanars chances, lobbying through his nephew and Union minister, Murasoli Maran, he alleged.
Expressing his apprehension about the fate of new government headed by I K Gujral, Gopalsami said, the government is an extension of the old Deve Gowda government with outside support from Congress. The Congress could withdraw support to the government at any time, he said.

Saying that the defeat of the Deve Gowda government was not a defeat for any individual but for the collective, he said calling Gujral to form the government was not a healthy democratic precedent.
Gopalsami also appealed to President Shanker Dayal Sharma, to immediately dissolve the Lok Sabha and order fresh polls, considering the fate of coalition governments.
The people of the country will definitely give a clear mandate this time, he said. The present government is installed through patch up. The government can fall at any time, thus leading to uncertainty again, Gopalsami said.
The non-participation of TMC in the Union cabinet was ample proof of discontentment among the UF constituents, Gopalsami said.
