Krishna resigns from Assembly

Our Bureau Bangalore
Former chief minister of Karnataka and Maharashtra governor-designate S M Krishna submitted his resignation from the Karnataka Legislative Assembly, on Saturday.

Krishna had been elected from the Chamarajpet constituency in Bangalore in the 2004 Assembly elections. This decision comes after the recent announcement from the Congress high command that Krishna was the governor-designate for Maharashtra and that he would be sworn in on December 6.

Earlier in the day, Krishna visited the Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee office and resigned from primary membership of the party.

He appealed to the Congress workers not to get disillusioned with the verdict of the 2004 assembly elections. On the coalition government, Krishna said that it was a new experiment in Karnataka and this does not mean that the party should lose heart.

Addressing Congress party workers who had gathered to bid goodbye to their leader, Krishna said, "There is no need for partymen to get disillusioned with the present set up."

He urged partymen to ensure that cracks do not develop in the coalition government.
