A senior official of London's Metropolitan Police has held a series of consultations with the government and top police officials regarding security arrangements for the Hockey World Cup and Commonwealth Games (CWG) being hosted here this year.
John Yates, Assistant Commissioner of the Metropolitan Police who arrived here yesterday for a two-day visit, met senior officials of the government, Delhi Police, Commonwealth Games Organising Committee and Commonwealth Games Federation."
During the meetings, Yates and Indian officials discussed security plans for the Hockey World Cup that begins February 28 and the 2010 Commonwealth Games scheduled in October.
"The UK and India have agreed to co-operate on security for major sporting events as Delhi will host the Commonwealth Games this year and London will host the Olympics and Paralympics in 2012," Yates said.
Yates also had a tour of Major Dhyan Chand National Stadium and a detailed security briefing for the Hockey World Cup.
"The security plans for the Hockey World Cup look robust and the UK looks forward to working with the Indian authorities," the London Metropolitan Police official said.
He said he had "positive" discussion about security planning for the Commonwealth Games too.
"The UK looks forward to continuing to work closely with the Indian authorities in the run up to this year’s sporting events in Delhi and in the preparation for the London Olympics," he said.
