The Maharashtra government today said it would act tough against those who destroyed public property during the bandh yesterday and the vandals would be made to pay fines for the damage done.

The Home Department would be sending letters to all the District Collectors asking for a detailed report evaluating the damages caused to the properties during the bandh.

"I am going to write to all the Collectors to evaluate the damaged properties so that strict action can be taken against those involved in the incidents," Additional Chief Secretary of Home Department Chandra Iyengar said.

The reports from the districts are expected to be received within a week and the government would then fine those found guilty, she said.

The government had installed video cameras at prominent places to keep a watch on the vandals in the wake of the bandh. The police would review the footage and report to the Home Department, she said.
