While it is still struggling to seal the Indo-US nuclear deal, the UPA government today authorised Nuclear Power Corporation of India Ltd (NPCIL) to start land acquisition for new projects ahead of formal sanctions.

		</script> </DIV><p class='TableClas'>Till now, the process of land acquisition used to start only after financial sanction to the project. Now, to save time, the government has decided that the two processes, financial sanction and land acquisition, will go together. 
</p><p class='TableClas'>"The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA) approved NPCIL to initiate the process of land acquisition for nuclear power plants as a pre-project activity," said Union Finance Minister P Chidambaram. The decision has also been authorised by the Cabinet Committee on Political Affairs and the Cabinet Committee on Security. </P></p></table>
