The state-run power distribution company is introducing a system that will enable consumers to get electricity bills, instantly, at their door-step.
Under the system, employees of the distribution company will visit the house; record the meter-reading of consumer's electricity consumption and generate the bill on the spot, handing over the same to the consumer, instantly.
The process is likely to start from May. It will be started in Raipur and Bilaspur. The company had started the system on experiment basis in a few cities. Since the number of consumers in Raipur and Bilaspur is substantial, it took time to launch the system in these cities. The process, however, will not have spot payment facility. “Initially, there will not be spot payment facility, but it can be done after setting the spot billing system and preparation of required software,” managing director of Chhattisgarh State Power Distribution Company Subodh Singh told Business Standard.
The company had taken up the project of spot billing following large scale complaints from consumers regarding irregularities in billing. Consumers have been complaining that the employees do not come for recording meter-reading and generate bills on average basis that create burden for them. The spot billing will reduce this problem.
