State-run trading company PEC has invited global bids for importing 23,000 tonnes of different varieties of pulses to be delivered between September and November this year.
Bids will close on August 27 and the decision on tenders will be taken on the same day, the company said.
PEC would import 6,000 tonnes of urad, 5,000 tonnes of tur, 4,000 tonnes each of green lentils and desi chick peas (chana) and 2,000 tonnes each of green moong and red lentils.
Bidders should source the pulses grown in the 2010 crop year in Myanmar, the US, Tanzania, Kenya, Mozambique, Canada and Malawi. The shipment should reach Mumbai, Kolkata and Chennai ports between September and November.
India imports 3-4 million tonnes of pulses as domestic supply is short of demand.
