Petroproducts Excise Hike May Mop Up Rs 2,000 Crore

A day after arming itself with emergency powers to hike excise duty without limit, the government today indicated that it would raise the duty on some petroleum products, including diesel, to mop up an additional Rs 2,000 crore during January-March this year.

The move, however, will not affect the retail prices of these products, economic affairs secretary CM Vasudev told reporters here today.
