The Supreme Court appointed special investigation team (SIT) had 'tweaked' his statement to shield Gujarat chief minister Narendra Modi and other powerful persons, alleged suspended IPS officer Sanjiv Bhatt in his second affidavit before the National Commission for Minorities (NCM) on Tuesday.
Bhatt, who has been openly demanding prosecution of Modi and others for their alleged role during 2002 anti-minority riots, has also urged the NCM to immediately resort to appropriate legal recourse and ensure that victim of the carnage are not deprived of justice. He has made the allegation after going through the SIT report submitted in the magisterial court in February this year.
"It is now apparent from the report submitted by SIT, that certain very crucial portions of my statement, including the timing of extremely consequential meetings with the Chief Minister Narendra Modi on 27/02/2002 and 28/02/2002, have either been incorrectly recorded or deliberately tweaked by the SIT, possibly with the ulterior motive and intent of shielding certain powerful persons including the Chief Minister NarendraModi from legal punishment," Bhatt stated in his affidavit to NCM.
"These deliberate acts on the part of the SIT would amount to offences under Sections 218 (Public servant framing incorrect record) and 219 (Public servant during judicial proceeding corruptly making report, contrary to law) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC)," he added.
Bhatt urged the NCM to "immediately resort to appropriate and necessary legal recourse, in order to ensure that the victims of the genocidal carnage of 2002 are not deprived of their Fundamental Right to Justice by the joint machinations of Guajrat Government, the Justice Nanavati- Mehta Commission of Inquiry, the SIT and the high and mighty persons accused of heinous genocidal crimes." The affidavit was filed on Tuesday by Bhatt with regard to a complaint by 2002 riot victim Niyazbibi Malek before NCM in February this year.
