State seeks DFID aid to finalise Climate Change Plan

The Orissa government has sought the assistance of the UK-based Department for International Development (DFID) for finalizing the Draft Action Plan on Climate Change.
Besides offering its inputs for formulation of the policy on Climate Change, DFID is also expected to contribute a substantial part of the funding needed for implementing mitigation and adaptation measures needed to address the concerns posed by climate change.
The implementation of the mitigation and adaptation measures across 11 sectors will entail an investment of over Rs 1000 crore.
Addressing media persons, Chief Secretary T K Mishra said, “The Orissa government has given a proposal to DFID, seeking its assistance in finalizing the Draft Action Plan on Climate Change. We expect DFID to contribute its inputs and also offer substantial funding assistance for the implementation of the Action Plan.”
The state government has also sought the assistance of DFID in implementation of infrastructure projects in the state on the Public Private Partnership (PPP) mode and offering infrastructural support for the growth of the Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MEMEs).

“We share an excellent relationship with the Orissa government and are keen to work in collaboration with them.”He declined to comment on the details of the proposals made by the state government.
The state government today held a meeting with the DFID officials at the State Secretariat. Besides Chief Secretary, the state industries secretary Sourabh Garg was present on the occasion.
