Subir Dutta New Defence Secy

Defence production and supplies secretary Subir Dutta was today appointed defence secretary succeeding Yogendra Narain who retires this month-end. P M Nair, secretary, ministry of non-conventional energy sources, will take over as defence production and supplies secretary in place of Dutta. Dutta is a 1967 batch IAS officer from the West Bengal cadre. Nair is also a 1967 batch IAS officer.

The reshuffle involving several senior IAS officers has been approved by the appointments committee of the Cabinet, according to a release.

P Shankar, a 1966 batch officer from the Tamil Nadu cadre, has been appointed secretary, Planning Commission. He will succeed SS Boparai, who retires on June 30.

 

Enforcement Director SS Dawara, who belongs to the 1967 batch, will take over as secretary, ministry of non-conventional energy sources, in place of Nair.

Another 1967 batch officer, S Prabhakaran, special secretary in the power ministry has been appointed financial adviser and ex-officio secretary and concurrently member, Atomic Energy Commission and Space Commission.

M Shankar, secretary, department of official language, has been made urban development secretary. He will succeed K Kosalram, who superannuates in the end of the month.

Managing director Trifed Pratibha Karan will be secretary, ministry of food processing industries, in place of DP Tripathi who is also retiring on June 30.

K K Jaswal, additional secretary and financial adviser in the department of industrial policy and promotion, has been appointed secretary, ministry of statistics and programme implementation in place of BK Mishra.

Mishra would take over as chairman, Staff Selection Commission in the rank and pay of a secretary up to the date of his retirement
