Uttar Pradesh’s Information Technology (IT) policy will promote the use of Hindi and Urdu applications to increase outreach to common man.

“Specific initiatives” will be undertaken for using Devnagari and Urdu in computers and developing web applications for the same.

The state IT Policy 2012 is being given final shape with the government having already released the Draft IT Policy, prepared by KPMG, for inviting suggestions.

The new policy will replace the UP IT Policy 2004, which had lapsed in 2009.

It intends to boost IT activity at Lucknow and Agra in phase I and in other major towns in the next phase.

Apart from the infrastructure, commercial and industry aspects amon others, it would also focus on the enhancement of the quality of life of the people through “affordable IT,” especially in areas with low standard of living.

For ensuring affordable and seamless e-services, content and applications, the state would identify e-services to be developed and nurture an enabling environment for the stakeholders.

The policy would promote e-services, that could be adopted for local usage and delivered through common service or e-suvidha centres.

The IT Policy would give thrust for the creation and improvement of world class civil infrastructure like roads between IT hubs, cities, airports, which are necessary for attracting IT investments.

The government will make land fashioned as an IT City made available to IT companies on lease at attractive rate through a single window clearance agency.

Each IT City will be set up in an approximate area of 300-500 hectares. These enclaves will comprise self-contained satellite townships with commercial space for renting and residential accommodation, education, healthcare, retail and recreational facility.

The Uttar Pradesh government had already identified land to set up 2 Information Technology hubs in Lucknow and several IT companies had expressed interest to set shop there.
