VB Singh favours recast of Himachal education system

Press Trust Of India New Delhi/ Shimla
Addressing the 14th convocation of Himachal Pradesh University here, Singh said the education system should enable the society to absorb the changes that were taking place in the world, rejuvenate human resources and provide flexibility and strength to understand and utilise the knowledge.

"The formal education system alone was unable to cope with the emerging demands in different sectors. Therefore, information and communication technologies should be explored properly," the chief minister said.

He, however, cautioned that there should not be any compromise on quality of education and learners should be provided best academic facilities at affordable cost.

Referring to the challenges posed by globalisation, the chief minister said that the diverse and complex needs of the rapidly changing societies of the 21st century have begun to exert pressure on prevailing system and increasing expectations of the society and escalating demand for highly skilled personnel had created numerous challenges.

Presiding over the convocation, Governor V S Kokje, who is also the chancellor of the university, said the competition was becoming more tougher in all walks of life but one should prepare to face the challenges as many good things happened due to competition.
