VIT University would spend Rs 5 crore as research project grant every academic year to promote research projects by students under its Research Grant in Engineering, Management and Science (R-GEMS) scheme, according to G Viswanathan, VIT University chancellor.
The grant under R-GEMS would be similar to the Department of Science and Technology (DST) project grants. Project proposals would be invited from the faculty members. Subject-wise expert committees would evaluate, approve and monitor the fund utilisation.
