In a meeting of the newly elected members held by the party on Friday, the members unanimously elected Jayalalithaa as their leader in the Assembly.
Under her leadership, on Thursday, the party was re-elected to run the government for a tenure of next five years. The AIADMK party won the election with 134 seats, while its rival Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) bagged 89 seats, and the DMK-ally Congress won eight seats. Indian Union Muslim League won one seat.
AIADMK has been ruling the state from 2011 with a majority. It is after almost 35 years a party was elected for a second consecutive tenure in the Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly.
