CSB has targeted to set up 50 new branches this year and 40 ATMs across the country and it has sought the approval of the Reserve Bank of India for the same, a top CSB official said.

This would take the total number of branches to 411 and the number of ATMs to 165, the official said.

CSB had clocked a total business of about Rs 7,981 crore in 2006-07. Total deposits in FY'07 stood at Rs 4,726 crore and advances at Rs 3,255 crore while the capital adequacy ratio, during the period, stood at 9.38 per cent, the official said.

Similarly, the bank is also keen to enhance its customer-base, which presently, stands at around 15 lakh, while efforts are also on to further strengthen its staff-strength from the current 2,800, the official said.

Early this year, Reserve Bank had cleared the long pending transfer of a 38 per cent stake held by overseas businessman, Surachan Chawla in CSB.

However, RBI had asked Chawla to compulsorily sell a 28 per cent stake in the bank keeping a 10 per cent with him.

CSB has also plans to raise a minimum of Rs 132 crore through rights issue, once Chawla's stake-issue is settled in Supreme court, which is presently examining the case, the official said.
