Standard Chartered today announced the appointment of Neeraj Swaroop, as chief executive of Standard Chartered Bank India, subject to regulatory approval. Prior to the appointment, Swarup was the country head, retail banking, at HDFC Bank.

The appointment will enable Jaspal Bindra, regional general manager, South Asia, to concentrate on the growth and development of the bank's businesses in the other markets in the region.

Standard Chartered Bank also announced that Jaspal Bindra has been appointed to the group's management committee, becoming one of Standard Chartered's senior most leaders.

Since joining Standard Chartered in 1998, he has been central to the successful integration of the Grindlay's acquisition in 2000.
