US Fed cuts rate by 50 bps to 4.75%

| The Federal Reserve on Tuesday cut interest rates by 50 basis points to 4.75% in an aggressive move apparently designed to head off the risk of a sharp slowdown in growth that could culminate in recession. The move suggests Ben Bernanke, Fed Chairman, overcame internal resistance from some central bankers concerned about the risk of stimulating inflation by cutting rates sharply. |
