Clarification on Shri Kiren Rijijus statement on Punjab during his recent visit to the state
During the visit of Shri Kiren Rijiju, Minister of State of Home Affairs to Punjab on January 31st and February 1st, 2016 to Amritsar and border areas of the state, the Minister had stated that there are some elements within the country and across the border who are trying to create disturbance in Punjab. Shri Rijiju also stated that the Union Government will continue to keep close watch on such nefarious activities trying to spoil the peaceful atmosphere prevailing in Punjab. Secondly, the state government is taking necessary action to maintain law and order.
Reports in some section of Media that Punjab has been declared as disturbed area have misquoted the Minister. It is clarified that Punjab is no more under Punjab Disturbed Areas Act, 1984 and Armed Forces Special Powers Act (AFSPA), as the situation has improved.
