Experts stress on need for quality faculty at B-schools

There is a need for well qualified resource persons at the different management institutions across the country for achieving global benchmarks in management education, said Debiprasad Mishra, minister for higher education, tourism and culture of the Orissa government.
Mishra pointed out that very few management institutes in the country have dared to achieve global benchmarks even though the country has witnessed a mushrooming growth of management institutes.
He lauded the efforts of ASBM in designing innovative courses and expected the institution to come up as a Centre of Excellence, imparting high quality management education.
The minister was speaking at the valedictory ceremony of the second National Management Faculty Development Programme organised by the city-based Asian School of Business Management (ASBM).
Speaking on the occasion, Prasanna Patasani, Member of Parliament (Bhubaneswar) stressed on the need for value-based management education and also on the need for such faculty development programmes. Biswajeet Pattanayak, founder director, ASBM said, "The higher education sector in Orissa needs a complete revamp. From the very beginning, ASBM had a mission of quality revolution in education and we hope to maintain this quality in the future"
Pattanayak suggested the creation of a Staff Training College in Orissa for imparting qualitative training to the faculty members of professional institutes. He said the Faculty Development Programme at ASBM was a rigorous programme based on the best practices in management teaching. The thrust of the programme was on teaching skills and behavioural facets of management education, Pattanayak added.
