In a bid to apprise its first year students regarding career avenues in the financial sector, the Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad (IIM-A)'s finance and investment club 'Beta' is organizing a two-day event 'Finomena'. The fresh batch of 2013-15 at IIM-A comprises around 400 students.
To be held intra-campus on the weekend of July 20 and 21, 2013, the event will feature several activities including a speaker series on 'Careers in Finance: Myths and Realities' by Bhavtosh Vajpayee, Managing Director and Head of Equities of Barclays Capital, an IIM-A alumnus.
"Registrations are open for all first year students. The idea is make the students aware about opportunities and avenues in the financial sector in terms of career and academics," said a student member of Beta club. Apart from the series, the annual two day event will also include 'Bulls Eye' - a trading competition simulating open outcry markets and 'Barbarians at the Gate' - a real-time private equity game simulating hostile takeovers of sector firms with the private equity firm raking in the highest profits declared the winner.
Moreover, the event will feature a finance quiz 'FinQuest' and an introductory session about career avenues and verticals in the financial sector. Apart from such two-day annual events, IIM-A's Beta club also conducts activities that cover a broad range of verticals within finance.
