BS Reporter Mumbai

Hyderabad-based Indian School of Business (ISB), in association with Massachusetts-based Marketing Science Institute (MSI), will organise a conference on “Marketing in Emerging Markets: The Indian Experience”.

The conference will be held in India for the first time and focus on the broad theme of marketing with special emphasis on issues relevant to the Indian scenario.

“The conference will highlight marketing opportunities, showcase marketing success stories, and discuss the challenges facing marketers in India. For many companies its a challenge how to use their marketing techniques in a particular geography, globally. The conference will be a launch pad for taking some of the marketing issues,” said Venkatesh Shankar, professor of marketing and coleman chair in marketing, Texas A&M University and MSI academic trustee.

The conference is scheduled to be held between December 8 and 10. The event will feature leading academicians and practitioners from both India and the US. The sessions would focus primarily on three core areas: Opportunities in Indian Markets, Marketing Successes in India and Marketing Challenges in India. The organisers are expecting more than 120 participants.

“Companies face a lot of roadblocks in the entire value chain. There are long-term and short-term impediments. The conference will stimulate and throw up a lot of avenues on how to overcome the roadblocks. At the end of the conference, we are expecting to having a take away from the participants on a lot of concepts,” said associate professor of management, Krannert School, Purdue University, and visiting associate professor of Management of the Indian School of Business.
