Aarti Drugs tanks after accident at Tarapur unit

The company is in process of ascertaining the extent of damage and impact of the same on performance of the company.

Aarti Drugs is locked in lower circuit of 10% at Rs 167 on BSE with no buyers on the counter after the pharmaceutical company said an accident has occurred at the company’s factory unit situated at Tarapur, Thane on March 22, 2013.

“The company is in process of ascertaining the extent of damage and impact of the same on performance of the company,” Aarti Drugs said in a filing.

 “At least five people were killed and 18 others injured after a major blast in the reactor of a drug-manufacturing company at Tarapur MIDC on Friday. The roof and glass panes of the building were shattered and the structure collapsed,” a DNA newspaper report suggests.

The stock opened at Rs 170 and has seen a combined 6,826 shares have changed hands on the counter so far on both the exchanges. There are pending sell orders for 14,439 shares on BSE and NSE.
