Banking, realty stocks surge... Sensex gains 290pts

Realty and banking stocks continue to lead today's upmove. The BSE Realty index has surged 5.7% to 1,384, and the Bankex has rallied over 5% to 3,947.

Among the realty stocks - DLF and Mahindra & Mahindra Lifespace have zoomed around 8% each to Rs 148 and Rs 91, respectively.

Akruti City has soared 6% to Rs 1,140, and HDIL has surged 5.5% to Rs 68. Indiabulls Realestate and Unitech have rallied around 4.5% each to Rs 90 and Rs 26, respectively. Ansal, Orbit Corporation and Parsvnath have gained 3-4% each.

Among the banking stocks - ICICI Bank has zoomed 8.5% to Rs 308. Punjab National Bank, Axis Bank and Bank of India have surged nearly 7% each to Rs 338, Rs 325 and Rs 204, respectively. Union Bank, Oriental Bank of Commerce, IDBI Bank, Kotak Bank, Yes Bank and SBI are up 4-6% each.

 

Meanwhile, the BSE benchmark index, the Sensex, has gained 3.5% (290 points) at 8,633.

Among the index stocks - Mahindra & Mahindra has zoomed 9% to Rs 359. Sterlite, Tata Motors, Reliance Infrastructure, Tata Power, HDFC and Tata Steel have gained 5-7% each.

NTPC, however, has slipped over 2% to Rs 170.
