FCI to move fresh wheat directly to railway stations

Food Corporation of India (FCI), the central procurement agency, has decided to move fresh wheat from the Punjab mandis directly to the railway station to send it to consuming states. The move is to save handling and transportation charges.
“In April, we will be taking 583,000 quintals of wheat crop lifted from mandis directly to the railway station to transport it to consuming states,” a senior FCI official said here on Tuesday.
FCI expects to save an average of Rs 10 a quintal on handling and transportation charges through this.
