Lacklustre trades continue, oil & gas shares lead

Weakness can be seen in capital goods, power and consumer durables pockets

Markets continue to trade on a lacklustre note this morning, on the back of buying interest in oil & gas and metal shares.

BSE Sensex touched a high of 19,989 and was trading up 63 points at 19,952. Nifty was up 10 points at 6,054.

Broader market gained in line with the benchmark. BSE mid-cap index added 21 points to 6,525. Small-cap index was up 0.5% at 6161.

The oil & gas index led the sectoral mover's list. The index was up 2% at 8,840. Metal, FMCG and healthcare indices were up 0.3-0.5% each. On the other hand, weakness has set it the capital goods space. The index is down 0.5% at 10,005. Power and consumer durables indices are also in red.
 

HDFC is up 2% at Rs 869 ahead of its results. Other financial stocks are mixed. HDFC Bank is up 0.6% while SBI has slipped 0.7%.

Tata Motors is up 2% at Rs 305. ONGC, Hindalco and TCS are among the other key gainers. On the losing side, Hero MotoCorp is down 1.6% at Rs 1,680. Mahindra & Mahindra, NTPC and Larsen & Toubro are down as well.

RPG Life Sciences has soared 18% to Rs 72.45 after reporting a net profit of Rs 7.40 crore in Q4FY13, as against net loss of Rs 5.69 crore during the corresponding quarter of previous fiscal. Net sales increased by 37% to 56.34 crore from Rs 41.23 crore during the recently concluded quarter.

Dewan Housing Finance has rallied 6% to Rs 184 on reporting a more-than-double net profit at Rs 197 crore for the quarter ended March 31, 2013 (Q4) against profit of Rs 94 crore in a year ago quarter.

Allahabad Bank has posted 68.5% dip in net profit at Rs 126.15 crore on account of rise in bad loans. The stock is down 2.5% at Rs 123.

BSE market breadth is marginally positive. Out of 1,748 stocks traded, 922 shares have advanced while 735 shares have declined.
