Lower Volumes Cause For Concern

The stock markets opened on a weak note but proceeded to trade firmly through the session.
The Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) sensex ended the day at 3373.52 (up 15.83 points) and the National Stock Exchange NSE S&P CNX Nifty ended the day at 1088.35 (up 3.35 points).
The breadth was positive after three sessions as the combined figure of advances to declines on both the exchanges was 1286:976. Traded volume on the BSE was Rs 1,273 crore, while on the NSE, it was Rs 2,575 crore.

The capitalisation of the gainers versus losers also bears out a bullish view as the numbers recorded were Rs 2,061 crore: Rs 1,147 crore.
The traded volumes were lower compared with the ten-day average traded figures and that is a sign of concern. The breadth shows secular buying across sectors and that inspires confidence.
