Maize prices up 4.2% in week ended Sept 10

Maize prices in the country rose by 4.2 per cent to Rs 9,760 per tonne in the week ended September 10, 2010, vis-a-vis the corresponding month a year ago, according to the US Grain Council (USGC).
"Prices were higher than last year by 4.2 per cent. Reports are that farmers may still be holding some stocks and the crop may be delayed little bit, which does show in the state-wise prices," USGC India representative Amit Sachdev said.
Maize prices went up by 3.52 per cent to Rs 8,996 per tonne in Andhra Pradesh, while in Gujarat, they went up by 1.33 per cent to Rs 10,468 per tonne.
In Karnataka, the price of maize went up by 8.8 per cent to Rs 10,054 per tonne.
In Maharashtra, the price of maize increased by 9.22 per cent to Rs 10,616 per tonne, while in Tamil Nadu, maize became 0.6 per cent more expensive at Rs 10,596 tonne.

In Uttar Pradesh, maize prices rose by 2.48 per cent to Rs 9,445 per tonne. "It was only in Rajasthan that the prices were reported to be down by 1.88 per cent to Rs 10,161 per tonne," the USGC said.
Prices of maize were reported to be on the higher side in spot markets as well.
Maize prices went up by 4.78 per cent to Rs 11,694 per tonne in Nizamabad, by 4.71 per cent to Rs 11,560 per tonne in Karimnagar and by 1.32 per cent to Rs 10,720 per tonne in Davangere.
