| Mixed week for Smart Portfolios |

Markets exhibited range-bound movement last week before settling on a flat note. The Smart Portfolios benchmark, S&P CNX 500 index, was up marginally by 0.09 per cent to 4,243. An investment of Rs 10 lakh in the benchmark at the start of Smart Portfolios on September 1, 2009, is today valued at Rs 11.05 lakh - a healthy 10.48 per cent appreciation in the corpus. Ajay Parmar and Amar Ambani continue to outperform the benchmark with returns of around 14.22 per cent and 14.30 per cent, respectively. Last week, while Ajay Parmar's net worth saw a marginal dip of 0.26 per cent, Amar Ambani's portfolio value appreciated by 0.97 per cent. They were the two active managers and cumulatively bought stocks worth Rs 1.34 lakh at the net level.
Phani Sekhar and Praveen Panjwani still lag the benchmark in terms of returns. Interestingly both of them chose to remain on the sidelines last week. The former's portfolio value has appreciated by 5.24 per cent till date, which includes 1.45 per cent gain last week. Praveen Panjwani's net worth last week declined by 2.34 per cent, which has brought down his net returns till date to 0.26 per cent.
Barring Amar Ambani, all other fund managers continue to remain fully invested.
REVAMPED PORTFOLIO
Ajay Parmar Head, Research (Institutional Equities) Emkay
Ajay Parmar re-vamped his portfolio last week by including stocks like Fresenius Kabi Oncology, Aurionpro Solutions, Rain Commodities, Geometric and Micro Inks. On the other hand, he booked partial gains on his investment in IVR Prime, Panacea Biotech, Sabero Organics and Sterlite Technologies.

His gross purchases of stocks amounted to Rs 2.66 lakh, while sales totaled Rs 2.65 lakh. Parmar has 19 stocks in his portfolio, of which IVR Prime, Ador Welding and Sabero Organics are the top performers. The laggards include Orbit Corporation and Geometric. Parmar's net worth now stands at Rs 11.42 lakh, and he holds cash of Rs 1,678.

Praveen Panjwani was on the sidelines for the week under review. He has 24 stocks in his portfolio, of which VIP Industries and CMC with gains of 32 per cent and 23.79 per cent are the best performers.

His total turnover (buying and selling) till date stands around Rs 13.25 lakh, the least among all the fund managers. Out of the 13 stocks in his portfolio only two are trading in the negative.
