Sensex down 249pts; ITC drops 6%

The NSE Nifty is down 55 points at 5,081.

ITC has slumped 5.5% to Rs 215.

Satyam has plunged 3.7% to Rs 471, and Infosys has slipped over 3% to Rs 1,784.

ICICI Bank, Larsen & Toubro and Reliance Energy have shed 2.7% each at Rs 894, Rs 2,906 and Rs 1,399, respectively.

TCS and Jaiprakash Associates have dropped 2.5% each to Rs 942 and Rs 268, respectively.

Tata Motors, HDFC Bank and Wipro are down 1.7% each to Rs 668, Rs 1,517 and Rs 491, respectively.

Tata Steel has surged 1.7% to Rs 839. ACC and Bharti Airtel are up over 1% each at Rs 747 and Rs 825, respectively.

 

Out of 2,648 stocks traded so far, 1,628 have declined and 959 have advanced and 61 are unchanged.
