Sensex down 249pts; tech stocks weak

The NSE Nifty is down 56 points at 5,079.

ITC has slumped over 5% to Rs 215.

Satyam has plunged 3.7% to Rs 471, and Infosys has shed 3.4% at Rs 1,781.

ICICI Bank has slipped nearly 3% to Rs 892.

TCS, Larsen & Toubro and Jaiprakash Associates have dropped around 2.5% each at Rs 941, Rs 2,910 and Rs 268, respectively.

Wipro, Tata Motors and Reliance Energy have declined 2% each to Rs 489, Rs 666 and Rs 1,406, respectively.

HDFC Bank, too, has slipped nearly 2% to Rs 1,514.

Tata Steel has surged over 2% to Rs 844. ACC has gained 1.3% at Rs 747, and Bharti Airtel is up 1% at Rs 824.

 

Out of 2,619 stocks traded so far, 1,674 have declined and 876 have advanced and 69 are unchanged.
