Sensex ends down 451pts

The Sensex ended (provisional) at 15,774 - down 451 points. The Nifty ended (provisional) at 4,715 - down 131 points.

The markets continue to languish in late-afternoon trades. The Sensex is down 412 points at 15,812 and the Nifty is lower by 126 points at 4,718.

Hindalco has tumbled 5.6% to Rs 137, Ranbaxy has slumped 5.1% to Rs 425 and Tata Steel has slipped 4.7% to Rs 550 on the NSE. Jaiprakash Associates, Sail and ONGC are the other significant losers. Market heavyweight, Reliance, has slipped 3.6% to Rs 982.

There are no gainers among the Nifty stocks.

 

The market breadth on the NSE is extremely negative. There are 1126 declining stocks as against 117 advances.
