Sensex pares gains; breadth steady

The Sensex has pared gains and is now up 266 points at 15,227.

The NSE Nifty is up 56 points at 4,559.

Maruti has zoomed 7.5% to Rs 660. HDFC Bank has soared nearly 6% to Rs 1,253.

BHEL and Tata Motors have rallied 4.5% each to Rs 1,849 and Rs 428, respectively.

ACC has surged over 4% to Rs 642. ICICI Bank has gained 3.3% at Rs 716.

Bharti Airtel has moved up nearly 3% to Rs 864, and Larsen & Toubro has added 2.7% to Rs 2,771.

Mahindra & Mahindra and Grasim have advanced over 2% each to Rs 560 and Rs 2,062, respectively.

 

Sterlite, Infosys, TCS and Satyam are up around 2% each at Rs 593, Rs 1,709, Rs 846 and Rs 407, respectively.

Tata Power has plunged 3.5% to Rs 1,064. Tata Steel has slipped 1.5% to Rs 666.

Out of 2,605 stocks traded so far, 1,592 have advanced, 916 have declined and 97 are unchanged.
