Sensex up 154pts; Ranbaxy soars 5%

The Sensex is now up 154 points at 11,030.

Ranbaxy has soared over 5% to Rs 397. HDFC has rallied 3.5% to Rs 1,233.

Tata Motors and Reliance Communications have surged 3.3% each to Rs 784 and Rs 275, respectively. HDFC Bank has added 3% to Rs 802.

Maruti has gained 2.5% at Rs 799. ICICI Bank, Bharti Airtel, Satyam and Infosys are up around 2% each at Rs 560, Rs 402, Rs 771 and Rs 1,698, respectively.

Out of 2,480 stocks traded, 1,670 have advanced, 736 have declined and the rest are unchanged.
