Sensex up 174pts; Ranbaxy, HDFC rally

The Sensex is now up 174 points at 11,050.

Ranbaxy and HDFC have surged around 4% each to Rs 393 and Rs 1,238, respectively. ICICI Bank has advanced over 3% to Rs 565.

Infosys, HDFC Bank and Reliance Communications have rallied over 2.5% each to Rs 1,708, Rs 800 and Rs 273, respectively.

Bharti Airtel, Larsen & Toubro, NTPC and Satyam have gained 2% each at Rs 402, Rs 2,316, Rs 123 and Rs 768, respectively.

Out of 2,283 stocks traded, 1,629 have advanced, 582 have declined and the rest are unchanged.
