Sugar spurts on rising demand, low arrivals

Sugar prices rose further at the Vashi wholesale market here today due to brisk buying by stockists and wholesalers amidst restricted arrivals from the mills.

Small sugar (S-30) strengthened by Rs 21/49 per quintal to Rs 2,741/2,811 from Wednesday's closing level of Rs 2,720/ 2,762.

Medium sugar (M-30) also firmed up by Rs 24/35 per quintal to Rs 2,800/2,966 from Rs 2,776/2,931 yesterday.  

The following are today's closing rates for sugar (per quintal), with the previous rates given in brackets:

Small sugar (S-30) quality: Rs 2,741/2,811 (Rs 2,720/2,762)
Medium sugar (M-30) quality: Rs 2,800/2,966 (Rs 2,776/2,931)
