Weakness persists; HDFC slumps 8%

The NSE Nifty is down 176 points at 4,140.

HDFC has plunged over 8% to Rs 2,045. Wipro has crashed 7.6% to Rs 440.

Tata Motors has tumbled 7% to Rs 454, and Reliance Infrastructure has slumped 6.5% to Rs 881.

Mahindra & Mahindra, Ambuja Cements and Jaiprakash Associates have dropped 6% each to Rs 505, Rs 80 and Rs 142, respectively.

ICICI Bank has shed 5.5% at Rs 643. DLF, ONGC and Maruti are down 5% each at Rs 420, Rs 819 and Rs 637, respectively.
