Wheat dara, maize remains up as demand picks up

Wheat and maize prices continued to rise for the third straight day on the wholesale grains market today on increased buying activity.

However, rice basmati fell on adequate stocks against sluggish demand.

Traders said persistent buying by flour mills to meet increased demand, led to wheat dara prices to trade higher.

Adequate stocks against subdued demand helped rice basmati prices to decline, they further added.

Wheat dara (for mills) remained firm on increased offtake by flour mills demand and added another Rs 20 to Rs 1,350-1,355,while wheat deshi rose by Rs 50 to Rs 1,700-1,850 per quintal.

Similarly, the atta chakki delivery followed suit and gained Rs 20 to Rs 1,355-1,360 per 90 kg.

Tracking firming wheat trend, atta flour mills and sooji also added Rs 10 each to Rs 700-720 and Rs 820-840 per 50 kg. Maize too traded in positive zone by gaining Rs 25 to Rs 1,075-1,085 per quintal.

However, in the rice section, rice basmati common and Pusa-1121 variety fell by Rs 100 and Rs 50 to Rs 5,500-5,600 and Rs 4,200-5,000 per quintal.
